Inclusion

Irvington Cooperative Preschool is dedicated to meeting the developmental needs of each child in the program and supporting each family as valued members of the preschool.  The preschool tries to make reasonable accommodations for every child and family.  Only by supporting each other and recognizing each child’s unique contribution can we raise confident healthy children.

What does inclusion mean?

  • A place, program or activity where individuals are accepted and supported by their peers, teachers, and other members of their community
  • When individuals participate on an equal basis in a program, activity, or event of their choice
  • The least restrictive setting possible to allow all individuals to take part in the program as independently as possible

What are the benefits of inclusion?

  • Equal opportunities for children in all stages of development to take part equally in a compassionate setting
  • Increased physical and mental health, social skills, and confidence for all individuals because their needs are met on all levels with kindness and understanding
  • Development of community support and changes in attitude, which lead to greater dignity and self-respect for all
